A semi-acoustic quartet with Nell Hubbard (vocals and saxophone) Jess Avis (saxophone, flute & vocals), Marcus Vergette (double bass) and Johnny Fuller (guitar & vocals). With Nell & Eye play a selection of finely crafted original material and classic songs from across genres. The group create a wonderfully subtle accompaniment while providing vocal harmonies to Nell’s exquisite vocal performance. Johnny Fuller - Johnny has played blues, punk, funk, rock, soul, pop & jazz in a wide variety of bands and thus has a brilliant versatility to his playing. Cutting his teeth playing rock and blues in the seventies he was guitarist with the west-country’s first punk rock band! In With Nell and Eye he plays lead and rhythm guitar adding a subtle but rich tone to the whole performance. Jessica Avis - Jessica graduated in music from University of Birmingham in 2005 followed by a post graduate diploma from University College Falmouth. Jessica is a very talented musician and has a lyrical quality to her playing. Her astonishing vocal harmonies add a magical element to each of the songs. Marcus Vergette- As well as playing double bass Marcus is also a sculptor, film maker and composer. As a musician he has played with great names of British contemporary jazz, including Tim Whitehead, Jonathon Gee and Steve Buckley. As a bandleader he has toured his own band around Europe and as a composer has featured on BBC Radio 3. Marcus thus brings an extreme creativity to the band creating a unique style in which he produces jazz influenced bass lines with a funky and bluesy tone. |
